Rain, Food, and Another Tour!

ARGH I had this post finished and then my computer freaked out when I edited the video I have in here and now I have to rewrite everything for some reason!

Anyway, I'm sorry I haven't updated this in two weeks! I always mean to and then just don't do it. So what has happened since then? Not a whole lot, still just the usual grind of working 9-4ish and coming home. It was raining like crazy here for about a week and a half, and last Tuesday (June 6th) it finally stopped and the sun came out, along with my allergies. :P I happened to get this picture sometime around then:
This WAS a bike trail...anyone up for a ride?
Apparently there's been major flooding south of here - one of the music therapists was supposed to go to her university at Magdeburg (she's doing music therapy masters stuff there) but the university was closed due to flooding for five days.  Lots of people (I've been told hundreds) have actually lost their homes due to the flooding. :(

In happier news, I got to try a new fruit! It's called "Sharon" or "Kaki" (its Japanese name), and after a bit of searching, I found that it's a persimmon!
According to Wikipedia, it's in the same family as a tomato (which is, in fact, a berry!)
Caroline helped me cut it up (or I would have taken pictures...heh) since you peel it and then kind of eat the outside part - you can't eat the center. If I had to equate it to something I know already, I'd say honeydew. It wasn't as strong of a taste (I don't know how ripe it was, so that's probably some of it) and obviously it was orange. But the taste was similar, as was the texture.

I also got a bag of potatoes for some meals - apparently it's a German thing to have eggs on potatoes. I was picturing a poached egg just chillin' on a baked potato, but Caroline explained basically just cube the potatoes and cook them with scrambled eggs. Breakfast for dinner works for me!

I also want to throw in here that I'm eating all the German chocolate. Caroline and I were joking that one of my suitcases will just be German chocolate and Müsli when I come back. Yum.

I didn't really get a good shot of the hospital in my commute video, so I took another picture of it. There are several buildings in the Park-Krankenhaus Leipzig complex, as it were, but this one is "mine" - Klinik for Psychiatrie, Psychosomatik, und Psychotherapie. Don't think I need to translate that one for ya! :)
Sorry about my finger...photography fail!
If my finger weren't in the way, you could see better the bike area - there's a good 30 square meters with bike racks, since biking is such a big mode of transport here.

Also, to make up for me not updating, I filmed another video! This one is a tour of the music therapy room. Nothing long (about 4 minutes) but I figured I'd share.

This weekend should be great - the weather looks beautiful, Leipzig's annual Bach fest starts today, and my boyfriend is coming to Leipzig for the weekend! I'm definitely excited to see him and do some exploring; I'm hoping we'll get to the Thomaskirche and see some Bach festivities, and there's a monument I want to see.  So hopefully my next update will be more exciting than normal and have some pictures! :)

Bis dann! Tschau!
